The Older You Get, the More You Look Like Your Daily Choices

This isn’t an insult.
It’s a relief.

Because it means — barring a legit medical condition — your body isn’t betraying you.
It’s responding to what you repeatedly do (for better or worse).

And the good news?
This is not complicated.

Not trendy.
Not mystical.
Not hidden behind a $300 supplement stack.

It’s fundamentals—applied consistently.

Let’s walk through them.

1. Protein Is Non-Negotiable

If you want to keep muscle, you must feed, stress and rest muscle regularly.

Simple rule of thumb:

  • Maintenance: ~1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight

  • Building lean mass or 50+ years: ~1.25-1.5 grams per pound

No, this doesn’t make you bulky.
Yes, it makes you stronger, tighter, more resilient—and far harder to knock off course hormonally.

Protein preserves and grows lean mass, supports metabolism, stabilizes blood sugar, and gives your body the raw materials to repair itself.

🤯 Under-eat protein long enough and your body will quietly downsize you—from the inside out.

2. Calories Matter (But Not the Way You Were Taught)

Calories aren’t moral.
They’re directional.

  • Happy where you are?
    Eat at maintenance.

  • Want to reduce body fat?
Reduce calories—not from protein —> keep protein constant.

  • Want to build muscle without fluff?
    Add healthy calories intentionally.

Your body adapts to what you consistently signal:

  • Starve it and it becomes conservative — clinging to body fat and consuming existing muscle for sustenance.

  • Fuel it appropriately and it becomes responsive.

This isn’t punishment.
It’s feedback.

3. Fuel Choices: Boring Works

You don’t need a cleanse.
You need repeatable meals.

Eat overwhelmingly real food:

  • Lean protein

  • Vegetables

  • Fruit

  • Healthy fats

  • Whole grains

That’s it. The rest will take care of itself.
No drama. No detox tea. No “reset.”

➡️ Consistency beats novelty every time.

4. Sleep & Hydration Are Part of Your Workout

You don’t grow stronger during training.
You grow stronger after it.

  • Sleep.

  • Active recovery.

  • Water (at least half your bodyweight in ounces)

  • Breathing room.

Rest and pressing pause are not indulgences—it’s how transformation actually happens.

Ignore them long enough and your body will force the issue cognitively, physically and emotionally.

5. Use Your Vessel (Yes, I’m Talking About Lifting)

Pilates is lovely.
Yoga is grounding.
Jazzercise had a moment.

But a maturing woman must spend meaningful time under tension.

Why?

  • To preserve/restore bone density

  • To maintain/grow muscle mass

  • To protect organs from hormone-disrupting and disease-inducing excess fat accumulation

  • To avoid becoming bird-boned and susceptible to the consequences of falls and neurodegenerative diseases later

Muscle is not aesthetic fluff—it’s metabolic and neuro-protective armor.

Strength training is how you keep your body useful, not just upright.

The Bottom Line

Your body is not confused.
It’s obedient.

It honestly — neutrally — reflects what you do most often—not what you intend, hope, or Pinterest-save.

✅ The older you get, the more you look like your daily choices.

So simply choose:

  • Affirming, healthy foods and hydration as fuel and muscle fertilizer

  • Plenty of physical and psychological recovery

  • Resistance training with enough volume for AFAB women.

Not perfectly. And not to punish.
But consistently out of self-respect.

You ain’t finished til you’re finished.

Yours in strength,

Michelle
