Happy Friday, Frens!

Consider this:

Whatever you rage, rail or fight against enslaves you to it forever… whether it’s a belief, another person, ideology, addiction, etc.

When you’re deep in a literal or figurative struggle game of Tug-of-War…

… what happens when you let go of the rope?

The game and the struggle are over.

You walk away. You’re no longer engaged in a battle with whatever’s on the other side.

You’re free. And you’re the one who chose to liberate yourself.

You held the power the whole time.

But, you say, “That means I’ve lost!”

To this, I argue, “Check your ego and hire an accountant to tally up the sunken cost and the opportunity cost of this struggle.”

As the Jesuit priest and psychotherapist, Dr. Anthony de Mello instructed:

“The only way out of this is to see through it.

Understand its true value and you won’t need to renounce it; it will just drop from your hands.

But of course, if you don’t see that, if you’re hypnotized into thinking that you won’t be happy without this, that, or the other thing, you’re stuck…

…to get you to make sacrifices, to renounce things - that’s useless…

…if you understood, you’d simply drop the desire for it.”

For example, what would you do if you’ve been carrying precious gems in your hands for years and then..

…in a moment of clarity…

….you look down and see you’ve been hauling dog crap the whole time.

What would you do?

Drop it, wash your hands and leave it behind, right?

Wake up and see heavy things you’ve been carrying for what they really are and it makes letting go simple — and not a demon to fight.
