The Big Rocks in Your Jar / How Estrogen Preserves Muscle / Books to Read Before You Die
Weds ◆ Feb 21 ◆ 2024
Put the big rocks in your jar before the pebbles and sand.
We often confuse being busy with being productive.
In reality, we’re filling our jars with so much metaphorical pebbles and sand (social media engaging, answering inane emails/texts, reaching for our phones every five seconds, etc.) that there’s no room for the ‘big rocks’ like:
deeply focused, uninterrupted creativity
time with those we care about
learning difficult subjects
As Steven Covey suggested many years ago (depicted in the vid above) put the big rocks in your jar first. There’ll be room for pebbles and sand but they won’t monopolize your inner space.
Why Estrogen Is Critical for Muscle Preservation
In the article below I wrote about why women can handle so much more weightlifting volume — and recover faster — than men. It has A LOT to do with estrogen.
Not only does estrogen allow women to recover from physical stress faster it also:
Prevents muscle loss. It is anti-catabolic (muscle preserving).
The rapid decline of estrogen that begins for most biologically born women around 30 years old is also the reason we experience sarcopenia (age-related involuntary muscle atrophy) sooner than men.
Estrogen also protects joints, bones and tendons from injury. This is why most menstruating female athletes experience knee injuries during the beginning of the luteal phase of their menstrual cycle when estrogen takes a nosedive.
1000 Books to Read Before You Die
My friend, Molly, and I got the bright idea to tackle this.
We’ve decided books we read but barely remember must be re-read. It’s quite Anglo-Centric in selection but will be fun. And I’ll probably be worm food before I finish but hey 🤷🏻♀️

When Will 1:1 Coaching Be Available?
With Spring around the corner I’ve been getting inquiries about private physique transformation coaching.
The reason I stopped is because: time.
To really get things dialed and help people achieve their physique and athletic performance goals, it is a 💩-ton of work for me behind the scenes.
I’m taking it into consideration and will post about it here…
… but if I do, please know there will be few spaces available and my time and effort ain’t for peanuts. Just being forthright.
I take your journey and commitment seriously and I really value my time.
In the meantime, here’s Week 7 of 12-Week Physique for Paid Subscribers! Awesome work, Team!
