What do I mean by “be the hero of your story”?
I mean:
Be the person whose poster you’d put on Teenage You’s bedroom wall.
I mean:
Take care of yourself like someone you’re responsible for helping.
If you’re someone who:
Treats yourself like feces on the bottom of your flip flops
Constantly lets yourself down
Lies to yourself
Breaks promises to yourself
Makes yourself small
Surrounds yourself with low vibe people
Talks to yourself disrespectfully
Downplays your potential…
…then pretend you’re your own child.
Would you treat a child the same as above?
If you did, that would be pretty awful parenting.
Are you subconsciously modeling the above behaviors around an actual child?
Why do we treat ourselves like this regularly yet expect respect from others?
We commit slow suicides with self-medicating substances, being sedentary, and often opting for instant gratification and the easiest path vs. results with staying power for the long run.
Get back to the hobbies that make you happy for no reason other than joy.
Even if it’s for a few stolen minutes.
It will nourish you during the doldrums and the grind of getting the daily necessities done.
It will pump your tires.
You wouldn’t kick a little kid to the curb. So don’t throw yourself under the bus, either.
Be the hero of your story.

P.S.
This is basically a note-to-self. But maybe you find it useful?
51 Pull Ups for My 51st Birthday
and 1.5 to grow on!
Got ‘em done in 33 minutes using a mix of overhand, underhand, and parallel grip.
That’s 12 minutes faster than last year when I was a young, wild and foolish 50.
The last two I did with an additional 10lbs.
The bonus 1.5 reps I did with 25lbs.
Want to get your 1st or 50th pull up?
Last year I made a post detailing my 50th birthday pull up training process.
